Interviewing Tip of the Month
Interviewing Tip of the Month: Ace Your Interview by Preparing for These Two Types of Questions

Job interview questions typically focus on revealing who can meet these two key employer objectives:
  • People who have the right behavior patterns for the job. Some jobs require assertiveness, some require high focus, some require passivity, etc.
  • People who possess the core competencies required for success. Read the job description closely to discern the abilities that are associated with a position's requirements.
As you prepare for your interview, think about what kind of behaviors and competencies the employer might deem best. Come to your interview prepared with stories that demonstrate how you have exhibited these kinds of actions or developed these proficiencies in your current or past roles.

At Least You're Not This Guy...

Job search got you down? To help lighten your mood, here are a few amusing (accidental, in most cases) comments that were actually written in job applicants' cover letters:

  • "Here are my qualifications for you to overlook."
  • "Please call me after 5:30 because I am self-employed and my employer does not know I am looking for another job."
  • "My goal is to be a meteorologist. But since I have no training in Meteorology, I suppose I should try stock brokerage."
  • "I demand a salary commiserate with my expensive experience."
