A development company located in downtown Rochester seeks an Environmental & Land Use Attorney on a full-time basis. The primary function of this role is to manage multiple projects from site control to Notice to Proceed, while contributing to the various legal aspects of project development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary contact in regards to project approvals, including meetings, submittals, calls, and follow-ups with various municipalities and government agencies
  • Research and review local, state, and federal laws to ensure compliance
  • Attend municipal board meetings
  • Apply for and obtain necessary permits, plans, Subdivision Approvals, Variances, Rezonings, PILOT Agreements, and other development related agreements
  • Monitor state and federal incentive programs, grants, and credits
  • Maintain positive partnerships with contractors and key stakeholders


This is an office-based position. Some evening travel to municipal board meetings throughout New York State is required.

Job Requirements:
  • New York State Law License
  • Juris Doctorate
  • 5+ years of environmental and land use legal experience
  • Experience with renewable energy permitting is preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and capable of working under pressure
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and follow-up skills
